We had paid for VIP tickets which sat us in the VIP car with cheese platters and drinks included. First car going and last coming back from the turnaround town of Amamoor. Also included was priority boarding and 2 course lunch on return to Gympie. We did really enjoy the day and Faye had to admit she also enjoyed it! This trip was the reason we came this far north. Some may remember that we intended to do this trip last February when the floods intervened when we were one day away. But mainly sunny today!
Ken enjoyed being able to get aboard the loco and even shovelled some coal into the boiler. The driver gave Faye a piece of coal seeing she collects rocks!
When you look at some of the photos of the bridges - imagine that last year they were all underwater by several metres.
The turnaround was the small town of Amamoor - even had some markets. We were there for about an hour whilst they turned the loco around. Amamoor is where the Gympie Country Music Festival is held.
Coming back to Gympie we could get photos from the rear of the train…
