First for morning tea and then a couple of hours walking around the park. A talk by a young indigenous man was very interesting as he told us about wildlife and especially the impact of the 2020 fires. With koalas the estimate was about 60,000 but now about 15,000. They operate a rescue centre and hospital for wildlife. Of the koalas rescued from the fires they were able to save approx 30% and they believe that was really good. Some were not able to be returned to the wild so the park has lots of koalas.
Some photos from our visit…
The birds were mostly in a walk through aviary so they have lots of room to fly.
We are feeding the quokkas….
On then to Parndana for lunch at the local cafe/bakery. And then onto Emu Bay and we have 4 nights here at the Discovery Lagoon. It is a lovely area and tonight we are the only ones here. Has all facilities except power.
After setting up we went into Kingscote for some food shopping and Percy wanted a BIG drink…
We will cover the northern and north/east section of KI from here. Kingscote is the largest town on the island and we are 9 kms away.
