Day 25 - a day in Flinders Chase National Park

Our park is right on the boundary of Flinders Chase National Park so not too far to drive today to see the 2 main icons of Kangaroo Island.

You would be aware that the fires of January 2020 devastated this park and it was completely burnt out except for a small section around Admirals Arch area. It also destroyed the Visitors Centre and they are just starting to rebuild that in a different place. However, it is great to see the regeneration that is happening throughout the park and much of the tourist infrastructure (board walks etc) has been completely renewed.

Also lots of flowers around…

After signing in at a temporary info centre the first stop was Cape du Couedic where there is a lighthouse and the site of Admirals Arch.

A ranger suggested we so a loop hike from the lighthouse visiting Admirals Arch along the way. We did that walk and we survived that OK although Faye’s leg is suffering a little…

There were heaps of fur seals around that area…

And birds and a very dramatic coastline…

Next stop was Weirs cove and ruins which was where the storehouse for the lighthouse keepers was located. You can see the old jetty where all the supplies and people coming to the lighthouse had to arrive in the early days (& come up the cliff face).

Not too far away was Remarkable Rocks…

A stunning place to visit.

Then back to the park for a late lunch after which did a walk around the park….

Lots of koalas around.

Staying here again the next 2 nights. Tomorrow we go to the northern section of the National Park.
