Day 24 - Western Kangaroo Island Caravan Park

A very overcast day today as we travelled 68km to Western KI  caravan park which is the most westerly part you can stay or camp with a caravan on the island. Everything west of here is Flinders Chase National Park which was where the 2020 fires started and most of the western section of the island was burnt.

The start to the day was very slow….no hurry due to the short travel and not a lot to see along the way. Left Murray Lagoon around 10.30 and along to Vivonne Bay Store for morning coffee and muffins.

It was after that we started to drive through areas that had been burnt in 2020. You can still see the devastation but also the regeneration alongside the road. 3 photos are below…

We had read that there were peacocks around Murray Lagoon but didn’t see one until we were packing up this morning.

When we arrived at our caravan park for next 3 nights there were lots of Cape Barren geese to greet us!

Faye has been busy this afternoon getting all the washing done. Not a very nice day. Handy to have a washing machine in the van but we are using the park dryers to get dry.

The next 2 days will be spent in the national park - 1 day south and the other north.
