Then went walking around town with first stop at the Spring markets - the first markets of the season. Nearly everything was hand made on KI. They mainly have markets to cater for visits by ship cruises and todays was a first spring one without a ship in. They have 31 cruise ships scheduled to call at KI this coming cruise season. Faye did make some purchases!
Next stop was morning tea at Fat Beagle for coffee and morning tea and then a general look around. Then picked up Percy and a drive around the immediate area. Some photos -
Last night we did a walk with KI Penguin Centre. Was interesting and we did see a few penguins at a distance. Not like Philip Island - these come straight onto the rocks. Said they see them in town on occasions. Photos really difficult at night but there are 2 in the photo above. Faye made friends with Woody at the markets - a retired guide dog.
The windmill and well was where fresh water was obtained in the early days and still used up until the early 1960’s. Penneshaw now has a desalination plant.
The second photo above is at “Frenchman’s rock” where a french ship did a inscription on a rock of their visit there in 1803. A replica is under the dome.
This afternoon we did an Ocean Safari - this was a Father’s day gift from some of the family. Thank you - we really enjoyed it. Usually they use a rubber ducky but because of the changeable weather they used a normal boat today - Faye was very happy with that…
Our caravan is in the last photo.
The following photos cover, birds, dolphins, seals and the coastline.
The coastline is mainly basalt with it laying at an angle.
Tomorrow we will do a trip around the eastern end of the island.
