Day 3 - Little Topar (75km from Broken Hill)

A nice quiet night at Florida - no trucks or trains and all by ourselves!

Left at 8.30am with 50km to Cobar and the compulsory morning coffee at Gumnut gifts and coffee…

We sat at a table with a local couple who were very interesting - he had a farm property and both worked maintaining houses for the mines. There are many mines in the area and said that most now work with fly in fly out workers and it is having a real adverse affect on the town. Also the mining companies do not buy their supplies locally.

Just realized the last photo is Faye having lunch at Emmdale.

Had a little walk around centre of Cobar and then went to the Cobar Sound Chapel which is outside of town. You may have seen an ABC program in recent months about its history and how it was done inside an old water tank. There is concrete structures inside the tank and it plays stringed music. We couldn’t get inside as you have to pay a $300 bond to get a key but you could hear the music from the outside.

Finally left Cobar after 11am and through to Emmdale for lunch at the roadhouse.

Always some interesting things to see along the way…

Goats were everywhere along the road and we loved the teddy trees - there were several.

A quick stop at Wilcannia  to check out the Darling River which is running strongly..

And then through to Little Topar where we are staying near the roadhouse. Faye was on strike tonight so dinner at the roadhouse. Had to now include a photo…

They were huge meals - the photo doesn’t do them justice…Faye said the crumbed cutlets were the best she has ever had!!

Only about 75km tomorrow to Broken Hill and then onto South Australia. Not sure where we will be tomorrow night - we have to eat or cook a lot of fruit tonight though as cannot take fruit and some veggies into SA.
