Day 8 - Hill End

Not quite as cold last night but this morning there was sleet and a few snow drops but didn’t last long. The wind today is cold but not too strong.

Nice and warm in bed so we were late getting up - then went to town for breakfast and coffee at the 24 Carrot Cafe. We had been strongly recommended to visit the History Hill Museum but normally only opens weekends and school holidays. Spoke to the owner yesterday and said they would be open today so that was our main destination for today.

Spent quite sometime there and the range of things on display was fantastic. It was huge - covering Hill End’s history and the gold mining etc. A few photos are below which will give you only a very small glimpse. We both agreed that it was one of the best museums we had ever visited. It is owned by one man and the items would be worth a fortune…

The museum includes an old mine nearby which you can walk through and some outside stuff…

On our way back to the van we had a look at the Bridle Track but didn’t go very far as it was extremely muddy. So reversed back to town!

Tomorrow the plan is Oberon - you may have seen pictures of Oberon on the news - covered in snow but the roads are clear. We will make a decision in the morning based on the roads etc. The man at the museum says it should be OK as things settle down by 10/11am if there has been snow.  If it snows a lot and cant go we will head west towards Coolah or somewhere.
