Cloncurry was very busy with caravans everywhere and a queue at the bakery.
The middle photos are at an old pub at Quamby and the last 2 of a painted water tower at Cloncurry. We couldn’t get close as it was up a steep hill with a big sign “no caravans”.
Then had a look at Chinaman Creek dam on way to Mary Kathleen.
Only did about 160km today as we wanted to stay at the old Mary Kathleen township and unhook for a 7 km track to the old Uranium mine.
Mary Kathleen started around 1956 and finished mining in 1982. All buildings were removed so all that is left are the sealed streets and concrete slabs from the buildings. We are staying near end of Eleventh Avenue.
The photos above were taken from 3 different levels after a bit of rock scrambling.
On this trip Ken has encouraged Faye not to find rocks to take home. However, Faye won today and has 3 rocks to take home - said she had to as we hadn’t been to a uranium mine before!
Tomorrow a short hop to Mt Isa for 2 nights.
