Day 43 - Normanton/Karumba

Ken’s Drs appointment was cancelled this morning as the fly in Dr had worked all day & night and needed to rest. Couldn’t get an appointment until Monday afternoon so we will leave tomorrow and will be in Mt Isa on Tuesday morning. Will get some advice there if needed. The eye is ok but doesn’t look good and hopefull it will heal ok. Vision is good and it is not painful.

This morning we had a look around town - gave Percy a drink - and had a lovely morning tea at the local cafe...

It is the Norman river and runs into the Gulf of Carpentaria at Karumba.

There is a wetlands just outside town and got these photos, except the Ibis which was in the main street. Did not know they are so colourful.

After a quick lunch we went to Karumba. A new Barramundi Discovery Centre was opened only a few weeks ago so had a look first and then afternoon tea at their cafe.

The Centre was great and has lots of video and interactive stuff. Free entry. It also has an area where you can pay and try and catch a barra! Ken was only pretending!!

Then went to the Sunset Tavern for a drink to await sunset over the gulf. Then bought fish and chips to eat on the shoreline. People everywhere - a popular thing to check out at Karumba.

Some photos of the area and sunset.

It was a fairly slow drive back the 72km to Normanton as there were heaps of wallabies near the road.

Tomorrow we are heading south towards Cloncurry and will free camp somewhere so unlikely to have mobile reception.
