Day 22 - Kalgoorlie

Another nice sunny day for our tour of the Super Pit. We travelled in a bus and firstly went around the pit top facilities like maintenance, fueling, storage. Then we went to 3 different locations within the pit where we could get out of the bus to view the operations. The Super Pit is huge and the photos dont do it justice. The pit is 3.5km long, 1.5km wide and over 600 meters deep. We went about 1/2 way down for the last viewing.

Then we did a close look at the huge gold processing system. The pit produces around 22,000 kg of gold per year, or 60kg a day.

Overall the tour was nearly 3 hours and even Faye did enjoy it...she does look pretty good in safety gear, hard hat and safety glasses!!!

After the tour went to the York Hotel for lunch - the first photo is Faye on the staircase - and we ate on the balcony. Then went to the Goldfields Museum to see actual gold as well as other stuff - see Ken's new wooden bike - and went up the mining head.

Then some food shopping and fueling as we head further north tomorrow.

Going to Menzies and then onto Lake Ballard if the road is OK. There we wont have mobile reception but will during the day and the next day as we come back through Menzies.
