Day 23 - Lake Ballard

Only about 180km today. Morning tea at Broad Arrow and then onto Menzies for lunch. This town is a survivor of old gold towns. Whilst most have whittled away years ago Menzies is still going. Noticed that there are even several new houses.

The first photo is a railway workers cottage - one of only 3 still standing at Goongarrie built when the railway was built in the 1890's. The second is one of many salt lakes we passed. The rest were taken in Menzies. The town hall was built in the 1890's and Faye found her usual fine vehicles!

Menzies has lots of laser cut images and 2 are above. They all have significance to the town and each one has an explanatory plaque.

We then came 51kms to Lake Ballard which is a very large lake - mostly dry but parts have water. This is said to be a world renowed art site as in the lake are 51 sculptures of people covering 10 sq km. They were done by an English sculptor. It is called "Inside Australia".

We did a 45 minute walk and saw quite a few but they say it would take some hours to walk to them all. The following photos were all taken here and finishes with the sunset.

This blog will go when we are going back through Menzies tomorrow. Then onto to Niagara Dam tomorrow night and we again wont have mobile reception.
