Day 44 - Mt Isa

A bit of a sleep in this morning. On the way out of the Golf Club Faye found another photo subject...

Went to the Underground Hospital for a tour - it was mined out of the hill behind the hospital when Darwin was bombed in 1942 - they thought that Mt Isa may have been the next target because of the lead mine. It was completely set up & never used - it was closed up after the war & only discovered again in recent years. It had been forgotten about for over 50 years. There are no official records - but it was made safe & opened as a museum. Everything that is in it was as it was rediscovered - even the linen & instruments & crockery etc. Nothing has been added except some linen...

And Ken found an old nurse...

Then went out to Lake Moondarra for a look...

Faye found these from the dam wall...

Then to the lookout....

Then lunch at the Buff Club & then some shopping. Already showered & relaxed...today couldn't decide where to go - think we will have to sick to Camooweal...

Percy has been fueled up ready to go. Nice to get some really good fuel discounts. Today was Woolworths with a 40c per litre discount so as had to buy 150 litres the discount was $60!!!
