Queensland Day 60 Birdsville

We were up before dawn this morning so we could be back in Birdsville by lunch time & before it got too hot. The max temp has been 40 for 3 days now. As it is a very dry heat it doesn't feel that hot.

Had a great trip back - the only problem was bogging down almost on the crest of a dune. Had to shovel sand away from all the wheels so we could reverse back down the dune & try again. This photo of the top of a dune gives you an idea of what you see as you go up - absolutely no vision - which is why you have to have a sand flag. Yesterday we met another 4wd as we went over a dune & we both stopped as we saw each others flag...

And when you get to the top you can't see a thing until you start downhill...

We had morning tea in the creek bed of Eyre Creek...

The last dune coming back was "big red"...

And this is the water which is still on the easten side of big red (we saw it last year when the water level was heaps higher)

Faye took heaps of flower photos - here are just a few - we were amazed at the amount of flowers & birds.

Tomorrow we start down the Birdsville Track - no mobile for a day or so...
