South Australia Day 61 Mungerannie

Woke up this morning at 7am with huge wind gusts with sand & dust everywhere - couldn't even see the adjoining van or amenities. It only lasted a few minutes as it was the front of a cooler change coming through.
First stop this morning...
Birdsville is on the Diamantina River and this is the river near the town..
Then we set off down the Birdsville Track!

This is typical of the road..

Morning tea outlook..

Then a stop at the Moongara Channel...

Faye loved this stump - just as well it was in the ground - she would have wanted it..

Lunch stop outlook...

Then we came across 4 emus - they came up reasonably close, then crossed the road & just wanted to run along with us..

A beautiful section of the Track is Mungerannie Gap - here is an example..

We are at Mungerannie Hotel tonight - alongside the Derwent River - a lovely setting..

The Track has been reasonably good and it was great to drive when more than 10o cooler than the previous days - the only casualty was when we stopped at the Hotel our van water tank was emptying itself on the ground. A stone had broken a plastic tap where you drain the tank. It will be easily replaced & in the interim a fellow camper helped me put a bung in the pipe & we can refill tomorrow at Maree. I had the tap well insulated & covered but a stone must have got through.
Not sure where we will be tomorrow night - maybe Farina ruins.
