Queensland Day 59 Simpson Desert

Well it's now 9pm & we are camped somewhere in the Simpson Desert approx 140km from Birdsville. It's been a huge day!

We left this morning about 7.30 & the trip to Poeppel Corner was 180km & it took us about 7 hours. So after having some lunch at 3pm we have come back approx 40km before getting close to sunset - so then set up camp. Nice sunset - had a hot shower & now ready for sleep.

The trip was a lot harder & different than Ken expected. The temp today was 40o but didn't feel like it. During the day there was a strong wind but it is very still tonight. All the stars are out!

We lost count of the sand dunes we have crossed. The trip was very varied & lots of the dunes we climbed were almost as big as "big red". Lots of very soft sand but there was only 1 dune that we didn't climb first time. Crossed a huge dry salt lake & over the trip we crossed into the NT twice as well as SA twice. Poeppel Corner is where the 3 states meet.

Despite the difficulties we both thoroughly enjoyed the day - heaps of flowers out & Faye called photo stop many times. We haven't had time to really look at our photos yet so for today will show some of the varied terrain & will put up some flowers etc on tomorrow's blog.

First photo is the evidence that we did get to the Corner...
