Day 20 - Ohinepano

As the sun was setting last night we got another photo of Mount Taranaki from our motorhome...

Then this morning went into Mt Egmont National Park which surrounds the mountain but couldn’t see a thing as it was completely cloud covered. But got to see Dawson Falls. Then back to Stratford to refuel and get info on the Forgotten World Highway.

This highway covers 150km and is VERY windy and slow. Mostly sealed about 12km gravel through Tangarakau Gorge. An extremely interesting and scenic journey. Arrived at the Republic of Whangamomona and had lunch at the hotel. A huge meal so Faye says she is not cooking tonight!

If you want to know the history re the republic - google it...

Shortly after the road goes through a tunnel and then the gorge.

We are camped tonight at a National Park campsite alongside the Whanganui River. About 17 km from Taumaruiti where we start our next rail adventure tomorrow. All on our own at present.
