Day 21 - Ohakune

A lovely quiet night all on our own last night and Ken’s medicine alarm reminder woke us up this morning. Heaps of fog.

Came 17km to the end of the Forgotten World Highway at Taumarunui where we were to do the Forgotten World rail adventure. First stop was morning coffee at McDonalds to use Wifi.

The rail trip was similiar to what we had done previously except that this was much longer and involved 10 tunnels and heaps of bridges. 32km.

Didn't get back to town until 4pm (they bus you to where the rail starts) so first stop then was the Dairy for proper ice cream. It was an enjoyable day.

Then another 78km to Ohakune which brings us past Mount Ruapehu which are the main ski fields on the north island. This town caters for skiers and mentioned before that the North Island has more ski fields than the South Island. All runs are still operating with heaps of snow.

We are in a caravan park tonight and tomorrow we go to Taupo.
