Day 6 - Tairua

The fish we had last night was the best we had ever tasted! We had no idea what sort of fish it was but it was a big fish when the man was filleting it.

Today has been a beautiful sunny day. So first stop was Cathedral Cove. A fairly big walk in with lots of ups and downs and heaps of people. It is a beautiful place and aptly named. We stayed down there for quite a while and got a small window to get photos without other people..

Some other views from around the cove...

The goats were on a side track to Gemstone Cove. Very friendly and many young ones. We had to pay $15 to park the motorhome!

Then off to Hot Water Beach - as you can see from the photo below it was a pretty popular place. The tide was just starting to come in.

Then a little bit further down the coast to Tairua. Ken found this walk up Mt Puka which overlooks the water and town. Faye was a little reluctant when she saw the hill! However, we did it. You can drive about 2/3rds then a steep walk with the final section scrambling over rocks. The photo is evidence.

By that time Ken’s watch had told him that we had done 15,601 steps - walked 11.84 kms and climbed the equivalent of 104 floors.

Decided to stay here at a lovely freedom camp overlooking the water.  Tomorrow the plan is Mount Maunganui.
