It was our 53rd wedding anniversary today so we celebrated in the High Country. And Chinese for dinner!
First stop was a view over Mount Beauty and Mt Bogong which is the highest mountain in Victoria. Then had morning tea at the bakery in town.

Then as we moved into the mountains Bogong Village was the next stop...

Another 15km on was the Alpine Ski Resort of Falls Creek...

The dam was just past the Resort and is part of the Hydro power generation in the mountains.
As we moved even higher we had a 1km walk to Wallace Hut which was built by cattlemen in 1889 and is the oldest in the High Country. It is in remarkable condition. The only change was to put the iron roof on in the 1920's to protect the original shingles which are still there.

The floor is timber just laid direct on the ground.
2km further on was Cope Hut built in 1929.

It was built as the first purpose built for skiers and was in demand from the Victorian elite in its early days. No resorts then.
Coming back we did a 1.5km walk into Fainter Falls...

To finish up here are some sundry photos...

Tomorrow we will be washing, shopping and staying around Bright.
