Day 13 : Mansfield

The sun came out today and we had a really clear day for our 9 hours in the High Country. Did 190 kms and we are a little tired tonight! You can only do so many hair pin bends in one day...

Left around 8am and our first section was to Mt Stirling. This involved a circuit road around the upper part of the mountain which involved some rough 4WDing and to huts and waterfalls etc.

The highlight was to visit Craigs Hut, up a 4WD track. It is not a genuine high country hut as it was built as a set for the films "The Man from Snowy River". It did burn down in a bushfire but was rebuilt some years ago. Had morning tea there.

Along the track took a side road to Bindaree Falls and another hut.

Not a lot of water but you can get behind the falls.

Had lunch at Howqua Gap and then a 4wd track across to Mt Buller.

Was pretty quiet around the village being summer.

Then a bitumen road, 56km back to Mansfield.

Along the tracks and roads here are some birds/flowers and a special gnome house...

It was built to honour the Mountain-pigmy possums that live in the mountains.

Had fish and chips for tea...
