An early start to the day for an outback stop at Marla to get off the train to see the sunrise and have breakfast...
Then off to Alice Springs where we arrived at 2 pm for 4 hour stop. Some sights along the way...
The river is the Finke and did get a gympse of Chambers Pillar where we have camped previously as had Colin and Pam.
Some excursions are included at the Alice so Colin and Pam did an Alice explorer around town and we upgraded to a helicopter flight which went around the town, Simpsons Gap and the area generally. We really enjoyed the flight - a small helicopter with only us and the pilot and Ken sitting up fromt with no door - he was well outside his comfort zone! But really good for photos. There was a 30 knot wind so the trip was a little bumpy!! We survived... Here are a small sample of the heaps of photos taken and we haven't looked at yet those Faye took with her iphone.
This last set of photos are around The Ghan,
Zac is the guy with Faye - he is our carriage attendent.
Off to dinner shortly. The food is really great...tomorrow we arrive in Katherine where we have another 4 hour stopover. Sleeping in the train is a bit of a challenge with all the movement.
