Muscat Oman day 3

Another good start to the day - but a very hot one. This was our second tour day and Said picked us up before 9 and first stop was the Muscat fish markets...

It was good to see how they sell their fish!

From there we went to a very different smell - a perfume factory and shop. It is completely Oman and use traditional methods to produce the perfume and associated products. The brand is Amouage...

It is exported to Australia and is very expensive. We sampled lots of the perfumes and then had a factory tour and then Faye did purchase a sample pack of perfumes. They then provided coffee and dates - this was our first try at middle east coffee and dates and to our surprise we both really liked them. Even though the coffee was black and strong It had a lovely flavour and was well supported by the dates.

We then travelled to Nakhl and had a great tour of the fort which dates back to pre Islamic times...

It is surrounded by date farms fed by spring water from the mountains. The forts were used to protect themselves from other tribes. Then nearby drove through an area of farms irrigated from the springs which we then went to their source from the mountains...
"

Then went on to Rustaq for a look at some other very hot springs and then to their fort which was built around 1711,

Said took us to a restaurant for lunch - the tour company normally just provide sandwiches but Said wanted us to experience a typical middle east meal which for lunch is usually some form of meat and rice etc. it was a huge meal and both of us really enjoyed it. Then about 160km back to Muscat.

The following photos are some of the terrain we passed today. From the coastal moutains along freeways of flat country to further moutains inland.

We are really enjoying this trip and today was great except that inland it was 42 degrees. Very hot and humid. We arrived back at the hotel around 4pm and an early night tonight as we are tired.

Ken went for a walk around the resort just before dark and came back saturated. The humidity is really high and couldn't take photos as the camera lens continually fogged up.

Time for bed now. It will be a rest day tomorrow with no tours.

The resort is great and staff are so friendly and helpful - could get used to this 5 star living!
