Day 57 - Meungu Creek

Today was a day into the mountains over the Kirrama Range Road to Blencoe Falls. This road was damaged by cyclones years ago and has been closed for the last 8 years. We had travelled this road previously and the regional council finally spent $6m on repairs to reopen it earlier this year. The first 18 km over the range was improved but then it changes to the Tablelands council and that council hasn't done a thing to the road so that section was not in good condition.

The trip to the falls was 76km each way and although a very very bendy road we did enjoy the trip with lots of good views. Had morning tea at Society Flat which was a small town in the 1950's/1960's and lunch at the falls.

The gorge in the centre is the Herbert River gorge and the view over the Kennedy Valley looking back to Hinchinbrook Island.

The following photos are the Blencoe Falls and a small one alongside the road up the range.

On the way back had a quick look at Edmund Kennedy National Park and then bought fish and chips in Cardwell.

Tomorrow we plan to go to Jourama Falls but still have to do an online booking as it is a National Park.
