Morning tea was at Bonshaw and then into Queensland with a lunch stop at Texas just over the border.
Had a look at their painted water tank and then onto Leyburn where we are camped at the Rec ground.
The car sculpture represents the major event held at Leyburn each August - The Historic Leyburn Sprints.
This year is the 28th time it has been held and it commemorates the 1949 Australian Grand Prix which was held at Leyburn on a disused wartime airstrip.
The track is in the town and is 1km - each vintage racer has several runs to get the best time so only 1 car at a time. In driving into town we noticed lots of painted murals on concrete so a little googling gave us its history - the concrete were some of the barriers for the sprints.
Here are a few…
Tomorrow only a short trip to Toowoomba - hoping to stay 3 nights at the showgrounds.
