We went to Mayfield Gardens - first up was morning coffee and muffins. This garden was established on a working farm and first plantings were in 2008. It then opened to the public in 2014 and is still being extended. It is open 363 days a year so every season gives you a different perspective. As it is winter one of the gardeners explained that it gives the opportunity to see the “bare bones” of the garden.
Even though it is winter there were lots of people there today. The following photos hopefully will give you a idea. The garden covers about 40 acres and there is another huge family garden - 150 acres - that is open four times a year for a few weeks to highlight the seasons.
We really did enjoy the visit.
Also went for a little drive and had a look at Oberon Lake and around town.
Oberon is dominated by the timber industry with the main one (photo above shows just a small section of it’s operation) being Borg Industries who make flooring and all types of board used in housing and joinery. The company started in the 1980’s doing kitchens on the Central Coast and now is by far the biggest employer in Oberon.
Tomorrow a trip to a National Park if weather is OK. It was closed due to the snow but has now reopened.
