Day 25 - Bourke

Went for a walk around the main streets of Bourke - not much happening on a Saturday morning. First stop was the hardware store to buy some screws to fix a seat in the van. But we were able to get some photos of some historic buildings…

Then had a look at Port of Bourke…

There is a good flow in the Darling River and it will keep on rising over the next few weeks as the floodwater that fell west of the Great Dividing Range in NSW and Queensland comes through. The main NSW water comes through an extensive system of rivers that flow into the Barwon. Qld water comes into the Culgoa River which joins the Barwon near where we had morning tea yesterday to then become the Darling River. All that water from South East Qld and northern NSW will come through here. They say that there is a really good flow in the river and the new water will come through as nearly all the dams and farm dams are already full from extensive rain early in the year.

Had morning tea at the bakery of course. Was the busiest place in town!

Then had a look at North Bourke to look at the historic bridge and to visit a gallery that we had bought things from a previous visit. The artist Jen Greentree lives here and they are Christians.

We did buy a couple of prints to go in our lounge room to replace some faded birds! This is one of the paintings https://www.backobourkegallery.com.au/product/the-darlings-journey-varient/
Ken choose that one - Faye says it is his birthday present and Faye choose this one… https://www.backobourkegallery.com.au/product/strzelecki-desert-spring/

Then back to town to have lunch at a little cafe that we had seen earlier.

This afternoon there are storms all around but so far none have come over us. Just watched a movie amongst the thunder.

Some photos around town. As you can see everything is so green as they had good rains during summer. The only shop Faye could find to check out was the Newsagent which had some of everything.

Staying here tomorrow.
