Then we had morning phone calls from The Mary Valley Rattler cancelling our train trip followed by our camp site cancelling. It appears many parts of Gympie will be flooded today.
At this stage we are staying on here for another 3 nights until the weather system leaves the area! We will then make a decision as to where we can go. The train has been changed to next Wednesday and the camp says their property will drain fairly quickly once it stops raining. But once the flooding goes down they have to fully check all the rail line and bridges so if they cannot run the steam train next Wed we will get a refund. After Gympie we were going to the Sunshine Coast hinterland - and that has been inundated. Much of the rain from there flows into the Mary River which then flows north to Gympie and then continues north.
This morning we went into Murgon - only about 6 kms. Had coffee and a walk around. A few murals there -
The bird is a scaly breasted lorikeet which we didn’t see the day before and the waterfall just near our van where the rain was running off the hills behind us.
Murgon appears a nice well kept town. On the way back we had a look at Bjelke Peterson Dam which is nearby.
That’s all for today - now rest and reading time….And now at 3.30pm it is bucketing down again.
