2022 Holiday to Southern Qld - Day 1 - Werris Creek

Well our first holiday for 2022 is now on!

Covid is settling a little so we decided we would come away for a month and try and do it safely. RAT tests are on hand.

We are going to do some things that we set out to do last year but the Qld border was shut at the time. Just going to southern section of Qld and will spend sometime in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Left home this morning around 9.30 with first stop at Simgleton for morning tea then lunch at  Blandford. Then came through to Werris Creek where we are free camping at David Taylor oval.

Werris Creek was the town set up to service the rail which was expanding to many areas of NSW in the 1870’s. The station was built in 1880 and is the 3rd biggest in NSW. Our visit coincided with the arrival of the Nthn Explorer which splits here with part going to Armidale and the other to Moree. There is a museum here but was not open today. Also next to the station is a large outdoor monument to railway workers who died on the job or who were injured. An interesting place to visit and Werris Creek still is a major railway hub although only 2 passenger services a day!

Tomorrow we are going to Uralla to spend a couple of days with Faye’s sister.

Some of todays photos…
