Day 48 - Aramac

A nice quiet night at Cornish Creek and we left around 9am for a nice gentle 70km drive to Aramac.

We are staying in the town camping grounds where there is power and water for $15 a night ( but pay for 2 and stay 5 ). It is first in gets any available site and we got the last one at 10am.

Faye did some washing and then later in the morning went for a quick look around town and a little bit of shopping. Paid our camp fee at the Council.

First up we noticed some white bulls around town and a big one in the main street. So a little research gave the answer as white bulls are very significant to Aramac!

Harry Redford ( Captain Starlight ) was a drover and cattle duffer who in 1870’s stole 1000 cattle and a white bull and drove them from Aramac to Maree in South Aust. The White bull was significant when he went to court in Roma.

So the White Bull is commemorated with a large sculpture in the main street. Then in 2018 the idea was to do “Adorabulls” around town at businesses and services.

Have a think about where these bulls may be!

The Harry Redford Cattle Drive has been recreated in early 2000 but was cancelled in 2015 due to drought.

Tomorrow we are doing the Aramac Sculpture Trail which covers over 200km and about 50 sculptures. So that should give some photos for tomorrow night. Staying here for 4 nights.
