Day 37 - Quinola Lakes

Another very warm Nth Qld day. As we headed out for a morning visit to Mount Hypipamee National Park the first stop was at Malanda Bakery so we could have a healthy (!) morning tea before the walk…

The walk was to Dinner Falls then onto Mount Hypipamee Crater. The crater is a volcanic pipe thought to have been caused by a massive gas explosion. Bit hard to get good photos.

However a highlight (particularly for Pat being a bird watcher) was seeing 2 peregrine falcons on a ledge in the crater and the first 2 photos below are of the falcons. Usually hard to photograph and they are the fastest bird in the world. Can be well over 300kms per hour when diving for prey.

The others are birds seen today except for the centre one which are cattle egrets coming in to roost last night at the Quinola big lake.

Was a lovely morning and these photos were taken on the way home to show the features of the Atherton Tablelands…

The last 2 in Kevin and Pat’s garden.

Restful time now but Faye has found a shop in Malanda she wants to visit later today.
