A fine overcast day. Went into town and had a walk around whilst we waited for our 10.20am train to Midland. This is an hours trip right down through the Avon Valley - no stations in between.
It follows the Avon River the whole way and is a very scenic trip. We had about 2 1/2 hours in Midland before the trip back. The building is Midland Town Hall. Went to a shopping centre for lunch.
It was an interesting day and on arrival back in Toodyay had a look through the Christmas shop. Was amazed as to how much stuff they had - it is a huge shop. Said it is the biggest in WA and 2nd biggest in Aussie.
Now here are 2 interesting facts about Toodyay - (a) it won the National award for Tidiest Town in 2015 and (b) it used to be called Newcastle. It was established in the 1830's and the name was changed to Toodyay in 1911 because of confusion with Newcastle NSW. There are still lots of places with the name Newcastle eg Newcastle Bridge (1st photo below), Newcastle Park, Newcastle goal etc.
The 3rd photo is the towns first bank and then a mill. Then we needed a rest!!
Tomorrow going to do a loop drive through some other towns.
