Day 39 - Geraldton

A nice quiet day...Ken went to Bunnings this morning and then gave Percy a clean at a car wash.

Faye did some domestics and then we went to the WA Museum at Geraldton for a tour. They have a big exhibition on the sinking of the Dutch ship Batavia in 1629. It was the biggest ship of its time and was wrecked off Geraldton on its maiden voyage. There is quite a story about its survivors and several books have been written with the story.

The two bottom photos below are from the Batavia. The sandstone was used as ballast and were to be used as a portico at its destination. The other is some of its silver cargo which was recovered from the seabed. The wreck was discovered in the 1960's.

The boat is a replica of Batavia's longboat.
Last night we had a look at the HMAS memorial as the 2 top photos show including the 2 eternal flames on the anchor ends.
After the museum had a look at a shopping centre and then lunch at Maccas.
A relaxing afternoon today as Faye is not 100%. Tomorrow we are not going too far and hope to free camp somewhere along the coast. Then staying in Jurien Bay for 3 nights.
