Day 16 - Koonalda

A beautiful sunrise this morning and then the fog rolled in. A short hop to Nullarbor Roadhouse where we had morning tea served by UK backpackers. Then 93km down the road where we turned off towards Koonalda Homestead. It is part of Nullarbor National Park.
We knew that the road in, about 18km would be rough, the first 4km were stony but then got better - we only took it slow and got in without incident. One other van here and 2 4WD just rolled in to camp in the homestead.
The homestead is in good condition. The property originally ran sheep and it opened a petrol sale outlet to service vehicles on the old original nulllarbor crossing. Around the property are 100's of old vehicles that didn't make the crossing before the new bitumen highway was built several km's south
Faye's country heritage showed as she loved checking out the old woolshed and yards
After lunch we unhitched the van and went about 7km north to a large sinkhole and then further to Koonalda cave

Faye was able to get more bird photos today here at Koonalda and some flowers. But I took the photo of her new car - she loves sitting in these beauties.
Tomorrow we are going into Western Australia and will stay somewhere along the road!
