Day 28 - Barron Gorge National Park, Speewah

A nice BBQ tea last night - good free gas BBQ's...

After dark the bandicoots came out - came right up and one tasted Faye's toes...

A nice peaceful quiet night except being woken up regularly by the curlews...

Set off for todays walk at 9.30 am and we did 12.5 km's and back at camp by 2.30 pm - so 5 hours altogether.

The tracks we did were part of the Douglas Track and Smiths Track - both of these were done in 1876 as a means of getting from the coast to the tablelands. The sections were mostly rated "moderate" but one 1.4 km section was rated "difficult". Mostly followed the original dray tracks - which were started when gold was discovered in the 1870's. It was a very interesting walk - mostly via narrow rainforest tracks - the furthest point was Glacier Rock which overlooks Cairns...

Not the best photo - a nice young couple were there & took it so we could both be in the photo.
Coming back we did a loop across to the Smiths track and back a different way - some of that followed one of the old roads.
This is typical of the type of country...

We have now had a hot shower and getting ready for pork chops for tea...Faye says she is now aching all over from the walk!!!!!

Tomorrow going to Daintree National Park.
