Day 6 Perth

Went for a walk at sunset last night...

After a good nights sleep - today we went to Fremantle for the day. Got a CAT bus to the station and then by train.

Much of the day was spent at Fremantle Prison and we did 2 tours. The first one was "Doing Time" where we followed how a prisoner enters the prison and what happens during his stay. The prison was built in the 1850's as a convict prison & later converted to a normal prison. It closed in 1991 and is on the World Heritage Register. The 2nd tour was "Great Escapes" which told of the many escapes & how they happened.
Some photos...

The gallows.....44 lost their lives here....

The Chapel...

And the view from the guard tower...

We thoroughly enjoyed our time there - we went to every part of the prison - Faye couldn't cope with the gallows - got out pretty quick. In the end the guide let us out on "good behaviour"....
Then had a great lunch downtown and after that we went on the free CAT bus tour of Fremantle. On the way walking to the prison Faye checked out a small shop "The Corner Store" so on the way back to the station - she made a new dress purchase.
Back to Perth by train and walked back to the unit so Faye could get up her minimum 10,000 steps a day!!
