Queensland Day 28 Mapoon

Our last day in Mapoon. We have had the opportunity to use the local health service the last 2 days. Didn't mention it before but Faye has had a bad rash/lumps on one of her upper arms since we arrived here but as it was getting worse she went & saw the local nurse yesterday. She thought it was shingles & arranged for a Dr to see her this morning (he comes from Weipa 2 days a week). However, he is pretty sure it's not shingles. So she has some cream & painkillers & the Dr is going to check it out again tomorrow morning before we leave. It looks like it is getting a bit better now & we are OK to travel. He thinks she has brushed against something..

Here are some photos around Mapoon...the local shop..

The Council offices....
The local cemetery...
Cullen Point, near where the original aboriginal mission was located..
The school had an Olympics day today for a couple of hours so we went & watched. A guy from the Aust Sports Commission was here & at the end he asked Ken as a special guest to present the participation certificates - got him involved with some sports too. So had the opportunity to shake hands with all the kids!
Faye also did reading etc with Alana's kids this morning.
Tomorrow we are going to Bramwell Station & the next night to Twin Falls so it will be 3 days before any mobile reception or blog after we leave Weipa in the morning (need to stock up with food etc)
Another bird photo from the verandah...

  1. Sure hope that rash goes away Faye, and trust it is not shingles.
Safe journey to the Cape. MB
