Today was the day that Faye was to meet the KYB ladies from Wallumbilla. There were 7 ladies and 1 was away. One was the Uniting Church Pastor of the Roma parish and her birthday was celebrated. Ken had morning tea with them and then went walking after taking some photos.
Some ladies know of the story to the “Tongs in the toilet”. To get rid of the frogs! They gave Faye her own “tongs” for travelling.
People in Newcastle had given heaps of stuff as a “love” gift to Wallumbilla. We had taken 10 shown in a photo above. There were 7 ladies today - 2 were away the other is going to the lady who wrote the original article and has moved to Toowoomba. All the churches (Uniting, Anglican & Catholic) meet together 3 Sundays of the month when the Pastor etc of each denomination come once a month from Roma. The other Sunday is “lay” sunday at each church.
Other photos of around town...
Was about to send the blog when Bev York from the KYB group rang to offer for her husband Noel & herself to take us on a tour around the area and especially where their properties are. They own 11,000 acres and have cattle as well as cropping.
It was interesting drive and we got an understanding of farmers attitude to gas extraction and fracking. They have 9 wells on their properties and Santos are looking to do 50 more. Noel is against it but admits many farmers are happy to take the gas company's money. One of the ladies at KYB told Ken that she is all for it and has 30 wells on their farm and the money means survival. Each well takes up a footprint of one acre and of course there are underground lines for power and water and gas pipelines.
This area was originally dairy farms so lots of old derelict houses around and Faye loves photographing them.
Tomorrow we are going to Isla Gorge National Park so will be no mobile reception there so blog will be delayed.
