Today we did 270km and basically came up the west coast from Auckland. A VERY windy drive as we had strong side winds which pushed the motorhome around! Nevertheless it was an interesting drive. The waterfall is Omeru and tonight we are camped right in the Kauri Forest. A very unusual campsite which is run by the maori’s. We have no idea what the white thing is on top of the hill...
However, the most interesting part of the day was a visit to the Kauri Museum. It is a really fascinating place. We both agreed that it was one of the best we had ever visited. Not only covered all about the Kauri tree but also the local history and people. All the models portraying people are based on real people. Here are a few photos of the visit - covering the tree aspect. The cross is made from Kauri gum which was harvested from the trees in times past but is not done now.
Tomorrow we head further north and the plan is to get to Cape Reinga (the most northern tip of NZ) or at least a long way towards it.
