Day 24 : Towong

A nice sunset last night and some fog this morning. Left Mitta Mitta River around 9.30am and came through to Tallangatta to empty toilet & fill with water for more free camps.

It was a bigger town than we thought so had morning tea at the Bakery!

Tallangatta has an unusual history as it was relocated about 8km when the Hume Dam was being increased back in the 1950's. It is located on the Mitta arm of the dam and has been full the last 2 years. Is lower at present being the end of summer and the last photo above is the top end of the Mitta arm.

The last 3 photos are of the old town site and you can see where the streets were. The foundations in the last photo is where the Bank of NSW was located. Normally covered with water most of the year.

Then as we travelled towards Corryong came across a sign to an historic rail trestle bridge so Ken had to go down the track...could just turn the van around at the end!

Photos 3 & 4 are at Corryong which is where the Man from Snowy River festival is held each year.

Our camp is about 12km further on on the banks of the Murray River. We are camped on the NSW side.

Faye went rock hunting and our neighbour reckoned she was going fishing with rocks!

Tomorrow onto Tumbarumba.
