Day 12 - Iron Knob

A very cold night last night - no water in the van this morning as the lines were frozen. The Police who were with the wide loads said it was -4o at 7am. They normally leave at sunrise but the brakes were frozen on on one of the trucks and they were still trying to release them when we left at 9.30am.
Did some shopping in Peterborough and then morning tea so didn't leave until after 11am. It wa only 200km to Iron Knob and we arrived at 3.30pm. Had lunch at the top of Horrocks Pass. Some interesting countryside today...
iron Knob is interesting - we are in a free camp and 5 vans here tonight.
BHP first mined iron ore from here in 1899 and it was very high quality and it is said it led to the birth of the Australian Steel industry. BHP mined it for over 100 years. It did close down for a period but was reopened by Arrium in 2013.
Tomorrow we are going off the highway to Pildappa rock and will camp there. No mobile phone reception so tomorrows blog etc will be late.
