A little rain last night but fine this morning so we did come through to Thargomindah. The road had 35km unsealed and it was a little rough in places but we came through relatively unscathed other than 2 loose screws on the floor!
Only 120 km but Faye did find another car to drive! And we managed to avoid all the animal life.
We have been here before several years ago and since then there have been new buildings constructed.
The top photos are the new Tourist Info Centre and the shire council offices.
The town relies on bore water from the Great Artesian Basin and it's claim to fame is it was the first town in Australia, in 1898, to have street lighting by hydro-electric power. Also the 3rd town in the world behind London and Paris. The two bottom photos are the wheel that is powered by the water from the bore, in second photo, that turns the wheel with buckets and then belts to run the generator.
We are staying here 2 nights to have a rest day and washing clothes time.
