We were in the air for just over 3.5 hours and we both thoroughly enjoyed the flight. We have 100's of photos & haven't had time to fully digest so have just picked out some for the blog. Faye was in the rear seat so could see out both sides & Ken was co-pilot for the day. Another couple were in the centre seats.
After take off we went & had a close look at "Big Red" the biggest sand dune in the Simpson Desert..
All that water would not normally be there! From there we followed Eyre Creek & then crossed the Simpson..
Picked up the Warburton River & tracked it to Lake Eyre where it is still flowing into the lake..
Then crossed the lake..
to the Cooper Creek inlet
where the current flood is about to enter the lake..
Then followed the Warburton River..
Went across to the Birdsville Track for a time..
and then to Goyder Lagoon..
The above photos do not really portray the amount of water across all this landscape of desert & lakes etc. We feel very fortunate to have experienced what we have seen today.
After arriving back in Birdsville had a coffee & then came down the Birdsville Track 320km to Mungerannie where we will camp for 2 nights. Will be checking out the Cooper flood tomorrow.
