Day 6 - Menindee

First up today we went south to Sunset Strip on Menindee Lake.

Whilst there did the “Walk of Fame” which highlights all the Aussie movies made in the area, including Broken Hill.

The weir wall is the inlet channel to Menindee Lake.

Then did a loop back to town which included the Main Weir on the Darling River which diverts some water to the lakes system.

The water that is still let down the river is from a pipe in the middle of the river & the pelicans love it.

Then back to Menindee for morning tea - whilst sitting a fellow came up & sat with us. Turns out that he was the Senior Pastor of a Lismore Presbyterian Church & had flown to Sydney & then to Menindee to conduct a baptism service for a 3 year old who was the son of Menindee school teachers who had come from his Lismore church & they have been here for 5 years. Invited us to the service which was going to be on one of the lakes where we had been this morning - said that many of the townfolk were going as they love their teachers.

Then a look around town…

The rail bridge originally was a lift span to let the old paddle steamers through.

Then bought lunch and went to Kinchega National Park.

The road follows the river…

The weir is number 32 & the boiler from a paddle steamer that blew up.

Then to the old woolshed which was used from 1870 to 1970….still had the wool smell!

Then back to the van for a rest and to await todays sunset. No cloud tonight so very different from last night.

Tomorrow to Wentworth for 2 nights.
