Day 35 - Mapoon

A hot night last night! The min temp was higher than the max temp in Newcastle. Today into the 30's.

A pretty quiet day as we realized that the 2 big days of travel had taken its toll. So Faye just used the camera around the yard - but she did go for a walk this afternoon with Alana. Ken went with David to the power station to check what he does and then went for a bike ride to Cullen Point doing 17.5km.

Mapoon has an interesting history. It was a Prebyterian Mission in the early days and it was closed down in 1963 with the indigenous people forcibly removed to "New Mapoon" further up the Cape. During the 70's and 80's they slowly came back & established "Mapoon" again. The 4th photo above was the site of the Mission. The photo on the bottom is to commenorate the first contact of Europeans with the indigenous peoples.

Just had a great feed of barramundi. David is a great fisherman!
