Day 64 - Uluru

Up reasonably early and today was to The Olga's (Kata Tjuta). We debated what walk we should do with Faye's right hand out of action. We started on The Valley of the winds walk which is 4 hours and rated "difficult" with the idea that we would only go to the 1st lookout but Faye decided to go further (against Ken's advice! ) and she managed it OK. In the end we did it in 3 hours - some parts involve very steep climbing over huge rocks but the scenery was fantastic...

One special feature of the walk (and the drive out) was the amount of flowers. They were everywhere and it really made the day. These photos are a small example...

This little fellow was along the pathway...(very camouflaged)

A bit of a clean up of the van this afternoon and then we went to the village green to see some indigenous dancers followed by coffee and milkshake at a cafe that is used train indigenous young people.

We leave here in the morning and will stay at one of the highway roadhouses tomorrow night (probably Kulgera). Then we have booked into Arckaringa homestead for 2 nights to enable us to visit the Painted Desert. This property is about 82km off the highway but the road has just been graded. After that we should be at Coober Pedy on Sunday for 2 nights. Depending on mobile reception we will most likely be out of range until then.

Was 33 degrees here today and it came up very windy after lunch.

  1. Tomorrow (Fri) is forecast to be 37deg in The Alice so don't plan a long walk! We can expect 30deg here in Newcastle. What happened to winter? M
