Queensland Day 5 Duaringa

Had a very peaceful night at Isla Gorge, all to ourselves. A beautiful day today - as it was Sunday it had to be pancakes for breakfast...

The van was only about 5 metres from the gorge rim and it was a great place to camp. The 2nd photo was taken from the van this morning.

We were intending to stay at Dingo tonight but we have learnt on this trip that most parks in these small towns have been taken over by mining and gas companies. There is a huge amount of investment going on & the amount of trucks carrying pipeline and mining equipment is huge. Yesterday & today we would have passed at least 50 trucks carrying pipes. Spoke on the UHF to a work ute who is working on one pipeline which is to carry gas to Gladstone. There are 2 gas plants already in operation, and we passed sites of proposed new coal mines.

As well as normal semi's & road trains we would has passed at least 20+ wide loads with pilots.

By lunch time we had arrived at Duaringa & found it has a great free camp so decided to stay here for the night. Hot showers are provided also. This is the view from the van door...

Lots of vans here & the people near us had gone to Rockhampton yesterday & couldn't get a park site anywhere on that part of the coast or Yepoon so they came up here last night.

Tomorrow we will head north towards Mackay but have been told that it will be impossible to get a caravan park and to be prepared to camp along the road somewhere. So where to tomorrow?????
