Day 23 - Cooktown

A slow start to the day and our first outing was back to the Botanic Gardens…

Then down to the waterfront for coffee at the Driftwood Cafe which was opposite some of the James Cook memorials.

He was in this area for 48 days in 1770 while the “Endeavour” was repaired after hitting a reef.

Ken is standing on The Queens Steps which were built in 1970 for The Queen to step ashore when she visited for the 200 year celebration.

The bought fish (coral trout) and chips to eat on the waterfront with the seagulls. Very nice!

Then to Quarantine Bay which sits behind Mt Cook…

Lots of pebbles everywhere so I think Faye wants a repeat visit with a container!

Then to nearby Walker Bay where there is driftwood all along the beach…

Faye was happy!! The golf course is at Walker Bay.

That’s all folks for today…..

  1. Hi Faye and Ken. Love following your travels. Our son and his wife Terry and Sue were at Cairns on 4th and 5th July this year and are on their way back and at Charleville at the moment. Only just found your blog this time. We are in lockdown in Wollongong at the moment until at least 30th July. Thanks for blog. Love Bev & Noel Tibbs.
