Day 59 - Alice Springs

Last day in the centre of Australia!

Went to the Ghan Museum for a look and had morning tea there. Was very interesting particularly as we have travelled from Adelaide to Darwin on The Ghan. Included were some locos and carriages on part of the original narrow guage line outside Alice Springs. We were able to walk through some carriages and noticed that one of the cars had wood fired stoves in it.

Also an inside display, including videos of the “old” Ghan. The building is a re-creation of the original rail station in town.

After went into town for lunch, some shopping and refuelling Percy. Then back to the van to clean up and prepare for tomorrow’s journey to Ayers Rock (sorry, Uluru). This will be the biggest travel day of this holiday so far - about 450km. It’s just as well we booked many weeks ago and they say there are huge signs at the turnoff saying that if you don’t have a booking don’t drive to Yulara. All the overflow areas are also full.
