Day 5 : Lockhart

A nice quiet start to the day until Ken tried to roll the awning up and the wind had bent a part. The chap in the adjoining van helped to get the awning in so we were away and went to the Temora Aviation Museum.

Temora airport was used during WW11 to train pilots for the air force. Over 10,000 were stationed there over the time and they trained 000's of pilots.

They now have a "living" museum which houses a lot of aircraft and the have flying days twice a month. All the aircraft are airworthy. Would be good to visit those times.

It is funded by private donations and has 6 full time engineers as well as admin staff. Over 40 volunteers. All the pilots are ex RAAF or commercial ones. It was a very interesting visit. They have a Warlords day in October and last one there were 25,000 people. Already for this year the closest available accommodation is Goulburn - over 2 hours drive.

Had lunch at Temora and then came to Lockhart. We came this way to have a look at the hundreds of sculptures around the town. The photos below are just a small peek at what is here. They have a celebration each October and people enter sculptures - they come from over Aussie. 1st prize is $10,000 and the winner must leave the sculpture in the town for 12 months. Last years winner was the magpies in one of the photos below..

Some more...

We have a really nice camp on a lagoon. Walked up the street and people were very friendly.

Tomorrow we hope to camp somewhere along the Murray.
