A very early start today as we left Denarau at 5am for travel to Suva. We were going to spend the day with Peter and Jill Schultz who are involved with a Christian ministry to prisoners in Fiji jails. Their ministry is called Operation Foundation.
We had a bad incident early in the trip where we were travelling behind a slow moving semi trailer whilst it was still dark and something came out from under the truck and we hit it. As we pulled over we heard a massive metal crunching noise and thought the worst. As it happened the semi had lost its muffler which was what we hit and it had dragged under our car. The semi stopped and found the muffler sticking out from the rear of our car. We were able to get it out and from torchlight couldn't see any damage other than the underneath protector at the front had been dented. Thank you God for your protection. Another side issue was trying to find a toilet - public toilets dont seem to exist. Found one in a chicken shop!
Met up with Jill at the Womens Prison and Faye spent the morning there talking and helping with craft. She thoroughly enjoyed the time. Peter picked up Ken and went to a mens prison south of Suva where Peter had a meeting. Then went to visit an ex prisoner who is now working a farm. A photo of Ken with him is below. Couldn't take cameras into the prisons so no photos of that time.
Then we all met up for coffee and a light lunch. Jill took Faye for a short visit to central Suva and Faye took these photos.
Peter and Ken then went to another prison north of Suva for a visit. So Ken was in 3 jails and they all let him out! After that went back to Peter and Jills house for a rest and to meet up with Abel and Jemi.
We all went out for dinner to Bad Dog. Hopefully we can now catch up on some sleep in our motel. Going to Schultz's for breakfast and spend some time with them before driving back to Denarau tomorrow afternoon. The 2nd photo is the view from their back verandah.
Faye loved the playground sign. Perhaps Australia needs some of these...
